LASA Athletes and their Coaches

The LASA Swim and Dive Team is almost entirely run by the student Leadership, including our Captains who write sets and plan practices, as well as our newly inaugurated rally leaders of "Raptor Pride", our team spirit champions.

This is Coach Parks' 5th season and Coach Scherber's first season with the LASA Raptors Athletic Department.  Both Coaches are members of the LASA World Languages Department teaching German.

Coach Parks will be at Tuesday and Wednesday practices at the YMCA pool and run strength training during Land Practices on Friday.  Coach Scherber will be at Thursday YMCA practice and all meets.

Members of the Diving Team join in Land Practice / Weigh Room; however, their diving training is done via the high school program at the University of Texas.  LASA Divers work with Coach Beran at UT.  You can find the steps to join the UT Diving program here:

Christopher Parks Head Coach

Coach Parks has been teaching languages since he graduated from SMU and returned from studies in Berlin in 2006. His passion for German language, literature, and culture grew out of his time spent with his grandmother, who was born in Berlin in 1942. Outside of teaching English, German, and Italian before coming to LASA, he also took classes to improve his Spanish and Dutch, along with some beginner courses in Mandarin Chinese and French. Languages have been a lifelong passion of his since he first learned German nursery rhymes from his Oma.

Alongside his fascination with languages and cultures, he grew up being very active in athletics, including Swim, Track and Field, and Football until final landing in the world of marching band as a member of the Drumline and Percussion Ensemble. He was Drum Major for 2 years both at Marble Falls H.S. and of the Mustang Band at SMU.  He has always loved team sports and has been a member of a championship masters rowing team with the Texas Rowing Center since 2016. He enjoys reading and writing in his free time. You can even find a copy of his novel, The Berliners, on amazon if you enjoy historical fiction.

If you are trying to reach Coach Parks on campus, use the main LASA phone number below.  His extension is 23098.  His email is [email protected].  Email is usually the easiest way to receive timely and clear communication from Coach Parks.
